Combining their expertise and wealth of knowledge across foster care and social work, FosterTalk deliver engaging, lifelong learning solutions to both staff and foster carers across the U.K.

In a constantly changing and challenging environment, foster carers and fostering organisations need to keep pace with changes to regulations and guidance, policy and practice and the needs of children with a variety of complex needs and circumstances.

FosterTalk offers a wide range of training courses, focus days and events to meet these needs and to ensure that foster carers feel valued and well supported in the highly important role that they play.

These courses will introduce newer carers to some key issues in fostering and provide them with the knowledge and skills to meet the challenges with confidence. Experienced foster carers will be encouraged to deepen their understanding and further develop their abilities. Social workers who attend will continue their professional development by reflecting on these issues in depth and exploring alternative ways to support foster carers.

Meeting the needs of foster carers

FosterTalk provides a wide range of training for foster carers from our brand new Journey to Foster preparation training course, to post approval courses such as coping with allegations, complaints and standards of care and getting the most out of supervision.

FosterTalk’s training is interactive and uses questions, debates and case studies, our courses are delivered by experienced fostering social workers and trainers and discussions are encouraged as part of the training style which helps participants learn and remember rather than simply attend.

Courses are delivered at your own training venue, at a times convenient to you, and are for a maximum of 15 participants. All courses are linked to Training Support & Development Standards for foster carers and to national minimum standards where applicable, thereby enabling foster carers to complete their required training. All participants will receive a certificate of attendance.

Meeting the needs of fostering staff

FosterTalk can help you to meet the continuing professional development needs of your fostering staff by offering a range to courses to enhance their skills, develop their knowledge base and help them offer effective support to foster carers.

Our training aims to:

  • Ensure staff are equipped with the skills necessary to support foster carers in achieving good outcomes for children and young people
  • Ensure the course content is relevant and up to date, cross-referencing this with national minimum standards and HCPC requirements as appropriate.
  • provide a certificate of attendance as evidence of continuing professional development

Bespoke training to meet the needs of your organisation

FosterTalk can also offer a wide range of courses exploring child care topics and models of good practice. Each one can be specifically tailored to meet the needs of your organisation and delivered at your chosen venue in the UK.

FosterTalk’s training courses have been developed using our vast experience of providing independent and impartial support to foster carers and fostering services in a variety of situations. For staff, this means our good practice training has credibility and is based on real experience of supporting foster carers nationally. For foster carers it arms them with knowledge, practical steps they can take.

We can work with you to design, develop and implement appropriate training for your staff, based on learning needs and your aims and objectives, thereby enabling the specific requirements of your fostering service to be met.
