FISS

FISS (Foster Carer Independent Support Service) provides advocacy support to Foster Carers facing the investigation of an allegation or serious complaint. It is a cost effective, flexible and responsive service that:

Assists you in meeting National Minimum Standard 22.9
Demonstrates your commitment to your Foster Carers and the essential and sometimes isolating work they do
Overcomes the ‘no support’ complaints
Assists with communication during difficult, emotional and conflict fuelled times
Allows staff to focus energy into the right areas
Keeps Foster Carer Associations healthy

A qualified worker who is there for the Foster Carers who will provide:

Professional independent support for periods of allegation and serious complaint
24-hour response from point of referral
Personal visits to the home
Objective support and guidance for the carer
Acting as a mediator as required
Being an advocate for any member of the foster family, including sons and daughters and any child or young person still in placement
Attending meetings, panels and tribunals
Briefings for the Foster Carer’s solicitor
Attending and giving evidence at court
